Exhibition details for “Afthereta / Unauthorized” curated by Caterina Pizanias at the Vorres Museum in Paiania, Athens. Opening on June 11, 2018 at 20:00.
Artist Michelle Paterok, based in Edmonton, Alberta, explored “unauthorized uses of space for permanent home or temporary shelter by locals and refugees alike” during her residency. She has received multiple awards including the Samuel James and Augusta Kreye Deans Award and the Elizabeth Ann Burgess Award in Contemporary Art.
The exhibition featured opening-night performances by the IμChor choir under Dimitris Bousounis's direction, sponsored by OTE. The mixed choir performs while walking among viewers, creating immersive musical experiences across Athens museums.
The exhibition title drew inspiration from an essay by Andreas Angelidakis, an artist featured at Documenta, addressing unauthorized spatial practices.
