Dispatches from the Worlds of Art

“Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.” — Bertolt Brecht

Welcome to Dispatches from the Worlds of Art, a newly established platform dedicated to thoughtful dialogue on the evolving landscapes of politics, economics, and society. This blog reflects the growth of an international community that has evolved over the years, facilitated through email communication, exhibitions, residencies, and exchanges between Canadian and Greek visual artists and cultural workers. Dispatches is expanding that community because it is increasingly clear that art is not just a means to navigate social upheavals, but also a beacon of hope in the search for a better future.

We are all aware of and paralyzed by the multitude of man-made crises facing our communities. We have a responsibility to work together to identify solutions, drawing inspiration from artists who have demonstrated methods for fostering equitable communities and supporting ecological sustainability. As artist Barbara Pollack has stated, “…often artists get to the heart of the intersection between feelings and facts and make people move to take action or feel like they are not alone in their feelings.”

The goal of Dispatches is to share news about local exhibitions, large or small, workshops and gatherings, and stories of small or huge successes. It aims to offer an environment where everyone feels appreciated and included, providing a peaceful escape from the fast-paced chatter of social media. By exchanging and integrating these experiences, we have the opportunity to reimagine and collaboratively build communities that are truly worthy of us all.

Respectfully,
