Open Horizons

August 1 – 20, 2017 · Cultural Foundation of Tinos, Tinos, Greece

The “Open Horizons” exhibition ran August 1–20, 2017 at the Cultural Foundation of Tinos in Greece. Curator Dr. Caterina Pizanias organized the show celebrating Canada's 150th Confederation anniversary and the Canadian Embassy's 75-year presence in Greece.

Three established Canadian artists participated: Ron Moppett, Allyson Glenn, and Colleen Heslin. The exhibition introduced Greek audiences to these artists' work, which explores “the physical vastness of the Canadian landscape” through visually innovative approaches. Moppett combines bold colours and collected materials; Glenn creates figurative paintings addressing ecological themes; Heslin transforms painting traditions through dyed, sewn canvas techniques.

The exhibition placed Canada and Greece's parallel nation-building experiences in conversation, and underlined Tinos's significance as birthplace of several Greek artistic fathers. Dr. Pizanias previously curated “Migrations in the Third Dimension” in 2004 at the same venue.
